A unique behind-the-scenes peak at the MotoGP World Championship is being made available to 50 fans at the 2008 Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

Organizers of the July 17 event in Monterey, Calif., have made it possible to help raise money for the work of Riders for Health in Africa.
Great chefs from the United States and around the world, including Ireland’s Darina Allen, Australia’s Kylie Kwong and Food Network all-star Alton Brown will share their passion for fine dining and environmentally sustainable living as award-winning culinary leaders to be honored at the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Cooking for Solutions 2008.

At the two-day celebration on May 16-17, 2008 celebrity chefs – selected and recognized by the Monterey Bay Aquarium for their leadership in promoting cuisine that protects the health of the ocean and the soil – will create gourmet dishes, host food and wine adventures, and present cooking demonstrations that feature sustainable seafood and organic ingredients.

The Big Sur International Marathon is introducing a new race series — just for kids.

The inaugural kids’ fun run, THE JUST RUN, Just Kids 3K, presented by Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula, will be held in Monterey on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007 in conjunction with the Big Sur Half Marathon on Monterey Bay. The second race of the series will be on Saturday, April 26, 2008 at the same location, as part of the Big Sur Marathon events weekend.

The Naval Postgraduate School has educated 45,000 foreign officers and defense officials since its founding in 1909 in Annapolis, Maryland. Its alumni include:  King Abdullah bin Al-Hussein of Jordan; Admiral Ozden Ornek, commander of Turkish naval forces; General Elyezer Shkedy, chief of staff of the Israeli air force; and professor Lui Pao Chuen, chief defense scientist of Singapore’s Ministry of Defense. The school moved from the U.S. Naval Academy to its current location in Monterey, California, in 1951.

New rates for many of the most popular golf courses and resorts on the Monterey Peninsula were recently announced by Pebble Beach Golf Resorts. The rates will remain in effect until March 31, 2008. According to the posting on the resort's web site, the fee structure also has the following parameters:

Guests of The Lodge at Pebble Beach and The Inn at Spanish Bay may book up to 18 months in advance. Guests of Casa Palmero may book up to 12 months in advance, subject to availability. Early booking is recommended.

The City of Monterey, located on Monterey Bay along the Pacific Coast in central California, home to the Naval Postgraduate School the Defense Language Institute, former Fort Ord, which is now the site of California State University Monterey Bay; Fleet Numerical Oceanography Center, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, the Monterey American Viticultural Area; Cannery Row, Fisherman's Wharf and a Marine Mammal Center field station located in the area.

As of 2005, the city population was 30,641. The city is noted for its rich history of resident artists beginning in the late 1800s, its famed fishery and it's the birthplace of the semi-hard cheese known as Monterey Jack.


Big Sur is a sparsely populated region of the central California coast where the Santa Lucia Mountains rise abruptly from the Pacific Ocean. This landscape produces stunning views and has made Big Sur a popular tourist destination.
